With summer in full swing a lot of us have that looming summer holiday coming up. With this comes compulsory swimwear wearing, and dangerous friends who can be trusted to sneak a snap of you when you’re not expecting it, then plaster your pasty nudeness all over social media for the world to see. More often than not these photos will also feature the friend in question, invariably looking tanned, toned and smiling at the camera – perfectly ready for the shot.
How can we tackle this terrible phenomenon?
Regretting not sticking to last years resolutions will get you exactly nowhere. All that will do is annoy your friends when you moan about it. Not this again. Every year. Boring. No one cares.
Report the offending photo to Facebook to see if you can get it removed and make sure you never go on holiday with ‘the leaky sieve’ (formerly known as ‘your friend’). Yes! Now you’re getting more proactive, FL likes this.
Google ‘How long does it take to go from beginner to marathon runner’, read the title of the first article (which tells you it takes 17 weeks by the way), then book yourself a place on whatever marathon is running in about 17 weeks time? While FL appreciates the tenacity behind this approach, and the overall spirit of commitment, FL must caution against it. You will find that the next 24 hours are filled with a feeling of self-pride and visualising what you’ll look like when you’re a marathon runner and what revealing clothes you’ll wear, and browsing what trainers and supplements you should be buying. The problem will come when you try to go for your first run, realise you can only run for 10 minutes, and if you managed to run 26 miles at the speed you just ran, it would take you 6.2 hours to complete the marathon. This part is slightly more depressing and FL wishes than on none of it’s lamas. FL speaks from experience on this one.
Download the ‘Couch to 5k’ app. FL approves a lot more of this. It’s very simple and easy to use. It focuses on just one, very achievable goal and feeds it to you in small bite size chunks. You only have to commit to half an hour of exercise, 3 times a week, which FL feels is a very reasonable starting point. Of all the thousands of fitness apps FL likes this the best as it doesn’t over complicate the whole issue by offering you hundreds of different training plans and options. It makes all the decisions for you. Just follow the damn plan.
